About the book:
A love story wrapped in a mystery, this stunning Cold War home-front tale reveals the devastating costs of the birth of the nuclear age, and celebrates the quiet courage of wronged women, the fierce determination of fatherless sons, and the limitless power of the individual. TANGLES is a genre-defying must-read for our time.
When a harpooned whale offers proof the Hanford Nuclear Reservation is endangering all life in the region, Luke Hinson, a brash young scientist, seizes the chance to avenge his father’s death, only to discover that the disappearance of his former neighbor, Mary, a decade prior, may be tied to the government-sanctioned harmful practices.
About the author:
Kay Smith-Blum, a former fashionista and Seattle School Board President, is a fan of mid-20th-century history albeit debunking its tropes as she writes. An odd dream and the recent upheaval over leaking radioactive waste tanks at the Hanford Nuclear site compelled her to write, TANGLES, named 2024 Book of the Year by the Literary Global Book Awards and Best Debut Fiction by the American Writing Awards 2024. Smith-Blum, a sunrise writer, has lived in Seattle for four decades. She works out her writer’s block in her sons’ gardens and the nearest lap pool.

Please join us on Saturday, May 3, 2025 from 11am to 2pm when author Joyce Byers Hill will be signing copies of Lenora Sue Comes to Town.
Mike Slater was a successful businessman and philanthropist. His passion was helping people and doing what he could to improve the small town of Hope. To outsiders, he appeared to lead a charmed life. But Mike had a painful past he rarely talked about. For over fifty years his solution had always been to throw himself into his work. But did God have something better planned for Mike’s golden years?
Lenora Sue Campbell was a fun-loving senior citizen who acted more like a young child than like someone in her early seventies. Having fun and enjoying life was more important than acting her age. Would she be able to help an elderly workaholic rediscover his inner child, and maybe find love along the way?
Lenora Sue Comes to Town reminds us it’s never too late for God to bring happiness into our lives.
